2/28/11 LEF&C #25 & 26, which were on the Alaska RR were recently
sold to GATX, the RR leasing fleet. When I asked about their disposition,
I got this reply from the folks at GATX:
Right now we are about to run all four of these locomotives one at a
time through an extensive requalification at the former CEECO shop in
Tacoma. From there I cannot say for sure, as they will become part of
our operating lease fleet and as such will be marketed to industrial,
shortline and regional railroad operators.
Those engines have not operated for almost 2 years. I believe they were
retired from the Alaska RR in the spring of 2009. They were stored in
Alaska for over a year, then transferred to Seattle last summer. |
