Seen just after arrival at Seattle's
Pier 42 from LaGrange, Illinois, are two new Alaska Railroad 1500 horsepower
115-ton diesel locomotives en route to Seward with four other similar locomotives
yet due in Seattle. These engines are scheduled to sail for Alaska
this week on the motorship Gadsden which the Alaska Steamship Company has
chartered especially for this heavy-lift movement. The Gadsden is
equipped with extra heavy-gear and has been employed previously to move
heavy rolling stock.
