Pat Durand's 239 and 278

Randy Thompson asked that I upgrade a pair of Bachmann ALCO Moguls as stand ins for Alaska Railroad 200 class locomotives.  The big change is of course the tender conversion to the long slope back which I believe was unique to the Panama locomotives that then came to Alaska.  Change of some details such as a Westinghouse Compressor on 239 and the earlier New York Compressor on the 278 add to the illusion.  A new paint job, decals and light weathering makes it all pop.   There are believe it or not $60.00 worth of brass parts and incidental upgrades like surface mount LED headlights and backup lights, in each locomotive.

These Bachmann ALCO Moguls are excellent runners with onboard sound.  A little momentum, volume changes and selection of alternate whistle #1 makes the pair a real pleasure to operate in a double header This is a fun project for a good friend  Just follow some of the techniques documented in the building of ARR Mogul #208 and you can do it too.
