John Combs: On Wednesday, February 19 the Alaska Railroad and Alaska Department of Transportation triggered an avalanche. This resulted in the railroad becoming buried with snow at milepost 72. Jennifer Heiligenthal: I was driving along the highway Wednesday, Febraury 19 at 3:24PM, and noticed the avalanche and bull dozer. There wasn’t any traffic soI stopped right on road to take pictures and watch for a little while. That is a bull dozer cleaning up an avalanche that covered the train tracks. The size of the bull dozer shows you just how much snow fell. |
