Gondola 13830 was spotted on Passenger Track 3 for a few days for road crews to place the old retaining wall scrap from 1st Avenue when it was replaced. 13830 is a Pressed Steel Car Co. 65 foot mill gondola built in 1947 and was put in service the same year and has been on the Alaska Railroad it's entire life. These gondolas had drop ends which would lay down in the car.

This was for long loads like telephone poles for example. These cars were also used for a time to haul vehicles over the road to Fairbanks in the 1950s. I am unsure how long that practice was used. Today there are a few of these gondolas in MOW service and most have been renumbered to reflect said service, this one has escaped the numbering stencils  Athearn had a run of 65 foot mill gondolas that included 13830.10/06/2019
