ARR 95901 is one of the support cars assigned to the wreck train. 95901 was built by Mt. Vernon Car Manufactuing for the Rio Grande in 1943. The Alaska Railroad purchased a large number of these cars from the Rio Grande in 1947. The ex-Rio Grande gondolas were used for coal service and general freight for decades, with some being assigned to MOW service when their revenue time was up. Some were "rebuilt" for special purposes like the ballast spreaders or the idler flats in Whittier.
I believe 95901 was modified to be a crane tender used with the LC/wreck cranes possibly in the 1960s or 1970s. Don Marenzi took a nice undated color photo of LC55 with the 95901 as a crane tender in its original MOW number 0038.
ARR 95901 is a unique piece of rolling stock, these photos provide documentation for the historian, and reference photos for the modeler.
