The two wooden pegs keep the table from sliding backward. On top is a pencil tray and below is a compartment for maps and other stuff.  The Odyssey tray table and its front cup holders are still accessible.  The TV itself does reduce shoulder room a little, but this is a very small price to pay for quite kids.
