Casey's commentary:
The southbound Coastal Classic (Seward passenger) waits for her crew call at dawn on August 24, 2000. The consist includes 3009, a freshly rebuilt GP 40-2 HEP, baggage-HEP car 110, a dome, three coaches and a diner. Once loaded, the train will depart Anchorage at about 7:30 a.m. for it's 4 hour trip to Seward, 114 miles to the south. Once the three GP-40 HEP units arrived from rebuilding they were nicknamed "BABY-MACs" and now "1/4 pounders". This is due to the paint job resemblance to the SD70 MACs. What a railroad, they serve-up Big MACs and 1/4 Pounders to rail fans everyday! |
