Number 557 under steam on the Anchorage old roundhouse lead - Taken November 1962. I believe that this was the last time that 557 was under steam while in Alaska. I don't recall the occasion for this or whether it may have been simply to check the engine out before putting it away for the winter. In any case, that afternoon is was placed back into the old roundhouse and I do not believe it ever came out again under its own power. Since my father was working in the roundhouse during the winter months I would spend a good deal of time around this engine and the rotary during school vacation days.
