AS&G train at the Palmer Branch

F-7A 1502 leading either the original 1501, 1503 or 1505. The first order of F units came with larger tanks which is a spotting feature we can see here. The white flags indicate it's an extra and most likely an Army train originating from Whittier. I suspect those are UASX tanks, and if you look to the far right of the frame you can see U.S. Army, maybe Duce 1/2 trucks on flats. The old telegraph line that's still in use at this time adds that perfect rustic hint with the old Seward Highway next to it. I would date this around 1952-56 - Mike Gerenday.

Added 5/26/21: I believe the tank cars came from Eielson and the Army equipment came from Fort Wainright. The tank cars were filled in Anchorage and we unloaded them at Eielson. They get their fuel most likely by pipeline from Wainright which receives it from Anchorage, Ft. Richardson or Elemendorf. I don't recall it's been so long ago.  - Robert Garner
