Tuesday, 23 April 2024: Alaska Railroad Corporation (ARRC) Anchorage based work train is crawling Railroad North as they drop ties along the ARRC’s Eielson Branch. With ties dropped the previous day between MP-G11 and G16, today the crew would continue all the way to G23 just 1.5 miles shy of the end of ARRC trackage at Eielson Air Force Base. This was a rather rare train to see on the branch as work trains never run this far North unless needed as Eielson is the very end of railroad some 500 miles from Seward. The trio of GP40-2 locomotives consisting of ARRC 3008, 3004, and 3006 (originally ARRC 3000) had 23 flats along with caboose 1092 on the rear. If one looks closely you can see ties marked for replacement below 3008 along with the crew mid drop as the set down a bundle of ties.
