Chapados

Friday, 19 April 2024: Alaska Railroad Corporation (ARRC) Anchorage based work train heads Railroad North passing the Chapados siding on the ARRC’s Eielson Branch. Power for the train is a trio of GP40-2 locomotives numbers 3006, 3004, and 3008 all built new for the railroad in 1975 and 1976. 3006 was the first of its class originally numbered 3000 it was changed shortly after arriving on the property (all per John’s Alaska Railroad Web Page). In addition to the three GP’s the crew had 23 flat cars and caboose 1092 on the rear. Today they would continue another mile and half to VFW Street in North Pole where they would tie the train down for the weekend. The fallowing week they would start dropping ties starting around MP-G11 going all the way to MP-G24.5 the very end of the railroad and the start of United States Military Railroad Tracks at Eielson AFB.
