Portage Valley

Portage Valley

I shared many shots of this popular and easily accessible bridge over the years, so hear is one more taken with a drone back before I retired from flying.

On a glorious late summer day a pair of SD70MACs lead Alaska Railroad train 120N from Whittier to Anchorage across the bridge over the silty blue waters of the TwentyMile River at MP 64.7 on the ARR mainline a half mile north of the junction with the Whittier Branch. About 9 miles away at the head of the broad Portage Valley can be seen the famed glacier of the same name which now extends about 6 miles in length but once reached all the way here the length of the valley!
