120S At Bird Point

Another one of the must have roadside classic shots on the Alaska Railroad is this one at MP 81 on the Kenai Sub mainline. Looking down from the Seward Highway overpass on a gray summer solstice we see a pair of SD70MACs wheeling another long train of single stacked Alaska Marine Line containers headed to the barge in Whittier.

Beyond the train is the wide muddy water of Turnagain Arm that sees the world's second highest tides that can reach 40 feet! Across the Arm (really a bay or more of a fjord) rise the peaks of the Kenai Mountains.
