Portraying the various types of work and special challenges that occur along the rails of the Alaska Railroad
John Combs asked, "I was told the Tunnel section house was haunted. Interior doors opening and closing, lights turning on and off. Do you have any first hand knowledge?" "The old section house, built in the 1940's, had some weird things going on occasionally. I first went there the winter of 76/77 and even though I didn't have a 'gas car license,' I worked Saturday/Sunday by myself and had to walk down to the tunnels to work them. I was so young, dumb and invincible back then, that I spent one weekend (the only person there from Friday evening to Monday morning, 12 miles from nearest road access)...reading 'The Shining' after work in the section house! It scared the [socks off] me...but I couldn't put it down." |
