All in a Day's Work

Portraying the various types of work and special challenges that occur along the rails of the Alaska Railroad

On one of the first runs in the spring for the daily southbound passenger train, it derailed in a curve near Carlo. No one was seriously hurt but, rerailing the cars was challenging due to the location and inaccessibility to the site. A river boat company was hired to shuttle crews across the river which greatly reduced the travel time to the site. The cause of the derailment was determined to be "stiff trucks" on the six axle baggage car. 5/18/97
