Warming clawbars at 30 below: When you are gaging a whole curve with just a three person track crew, without the use of any hydraulic/motorized tools, just hanging on to the claw bar can quickly numb your hands.... even through heavy mittens. Since this was prior to hi-rails (or even doors/heaters on the motor car), starting a small fire served multiple uses. |
