Loading ties: A tie handler picking up and stacking ties at Gold Creek. Prior to the advent of using an excavator to load used ties on a flatcar the tie handler would pick up the ties, take them to a staging area and then the track employees would band them for later loading into gondola's by a locomotive crane.
