Governor Knowles getting a spiking lesson: During the ARR's 75th Anniversary, a re-enactment of driving the Golden Spike at Nenana was planned. Then current Governor Tony Knowles wanted a quick lesson so that he didn't embarrass himself during the ceremony. Although the Governor showed that he was fairly coordinated and with more practice had the potential of becoming a Gandy Dancer, he preferred to straddle the rail. After explaining that straddling the rail was against the rules, he started doing it correctly and did a credible job during the actual ceremony.
