Historical footnote: On January 21, 1924 the Russell snowplow derailed at the north end of bridge 305.7. The snow plow turned over and in doing so killed Conductor Dan McInnis who was caught between the wing valve and the top of the pilot house. The crew recovered the body and rode the two engines and caboose into Broad Pass. When the superintendent later surveyed the accident site, he found the plow lying on its back on the ice below the bridge. The snowplow had hit so hard that one set of trucks were found 100 feet down river while the other set was mostly buried in frozen bridge fill.
