Spring has arrived on the southern end of the Alaska Railroad as of April 12, 2011. MoW equipment was staged all along the railroad from Bird Point siding to Moose Pass. Looks like major tie replacement and bridge maintenance is in order. This excavator with thumb can be used for many projects including picking up and placing ties along the line. The track mobile, flat and gondola were parked along the Seward Highway on the Bird Point siding. There was an extreme low tide and the mud flats were littered with the dwindling ice flow chunks left high and dry in the background.
