These are interior pictures of the Rotary 3 I took this summer [2014]. The first ones were taken on a rainy day, but the last ones are on a sunny warm day. Several photos have the dates when the Rotary 3 was used and the names of the crews from over the years. The earliest was in 1967, last was 1990. The cab has this weird foam lining, like it was insulation, sort of like Great Stuff. The last time I was in there I almost melted from the heat!
Inside the cab of Rotary 3, there is a spray foam like material, most likely insulation. Engraved in the foam are names of railroaders who operated the rotary over the years. There are dates as well engraved, with the date of the last time Rotary 3 was used, March of 1990, 30 years ago.
Second message from Mike:
In the summer of 2014, I was fortunate enough to be able to go inside the Rotary 3 which is permanently displayed in the old town site of Curry. Armed with my camera I took my photos for historical purposes. Inside there are a few tanks probably for air, electrical cabinets and a generator, and a huge motor used to turn the wheel. Rotary 3 was converted from steam to diesel in the early 1960s and required Rotary Service locomotives to provide the power to the wheel's motor. (RF1B 1065, F7B 1507, and GP7s 1807-08-09 were equipped to power the Rotary 3).
