On August 23, 2005 Randy Thompson and I watched a work train south of Hurricane
swing into action. As locomotive engineer Frank Dewey moved the flatcars down
the track, fireman Duane Frank unstrapped the load of concrete ties. Extra-gang
foreman Rich Holzapfel would then get the excavator connected to the concrete
tie lift (seen in yellow). Derek Winchester, heavy equipment operator, would
then lower the ties to the ground and release them. Conductor Ricky Singsaas
coordinated the effort while staying warm and dry in the caboose.
