Cab control car number 32 is a refurbished F40. I've been told she was former Amtrak #236 or #246 but both of these were wrecked many years ago.
Here is a March 2, 2004 tidbit from the Chief Mechanical Engineer of the railroad, "The following is a quote from an e-mail I sent to Trains Magazine two weeks ago: The photo of ARR 31 (page 24) incorrectly identifies it as an F40. It is in fact a caper (CAb & PowER) car. It is similar to an Amtrak "cabbage" car except instead of baggage the engine room carries an 800 KW Cummins HEP plant. We had two (31 and 32) built from former Amtrak F40s by National Railway Equipment Co. in Mount Vernon, Illinois last year. In keeping with our loco numbering scheme you can determine the maximum HP available for traction by rounding down to the next 100. Yup; ZERO."

Amtrak loco 268, I found on the internet that it is now Alaska RR #32.
If this is the case (I see there is some doubt on your site what Amtrak
unit
#32 actually was), then this is the Amtrak loco seen in a nice station
shot about 8 minutes into the 1985 movie "Witness" with Harrison
Ford. An interesting factoid for your site, if you like that sort of trivia."

P32 (also know as a Cab Car due to AMTRAK conversion) is on the Alaska State Fair train, and has just arrived to South Palmer Depot. 09/01/2018.

A Caper (CAb and PowER) where the power is electricity generated by a diesel-powered generator for the hotel load of the train (the same as HEP but not in the traction locomotive).
