ARR 1078, November 27, 1971, 51 years ago today. No name to give credit to, no location, duplicate slide. Michael J. Gerenday collection.
Caboose 1078 is seen here in it's original mineral red color and window configurations, note the missing number boards. The odd wheel on the right truck is the generator pulley and drove the generator for power in the caboose.
There are other details too. There is a tri-level auto rack coupled to the caboose, a classic troop rebuild box car, and to the far right you can just make out a Burlington Northern gondola with a cover.
1078 was built in 1948 by Pacific Car and Foundry and placed into service in 1949 and was one of the leased cabooses in the late 1970s to MKT (I believe its MKT, please correct me if not) and was retired in Alaska at an unknown time. Status is unknown.
