Steve Drassler: No. 2503 had a little mishap with a slide along the Big Susitna River.

Rick Leggett - I know there was a slide in October/November of 1976, that put some locomotives (and cars) into the Big Su, south of Curry. I recall the guys on extra gang #2 (Charlie Stoll, foreman) still talking about trying to build a grade and track down to them in frozen dirt when I went to that gang in early 1976.

Mike Gerenday: This is the wreck of 2503 that the shops rebuilt into 3051.

Chuck Tenney: They put it on Whittier shuttle, Ben Parrish and I on engine. We took our truck hauling excavator on Klatt Road. First or second trip she made. Back to the shop for major repairs.

Bill Haggart: I can't remember who went into the river with it. Maybe Ken Smith, Sr.

Note: After 2503 was wreaked it was rebuilt to GP-40 standards, painted blue and gold, renumbered to 3051, renumbered again to 3021 and was retired in 1997.
