A 1964 Alaska Railroad engine is towed and pushed by two Becker Trucking tractors around the corner at Peger and Phillips Field Roads Wednesday morning. The engine is on its way to Forget-Me-Not Bed and Breakfast on Chena Ridge. Owner Sue Wilson bought the engine with a bid of $3,012, a price she picked because of the engine number painted on the side of the cab. She bought it as a Christmas gift for her husband Mike. Mike then arranged to have the engine delivered as a Valentine's Day present for his wife. The engine won't be lonely at the Wilson's Bed and Breakfast as it will join two Pullman cars and a caboose. A 1964 Alaska Railroad engine is towed and pushed by two Becker Trucking semis onto the Johansen Expressway toward its final destination at the Forget-Me-Not Lodge/Aurora Express on Chena Ridge Road Wednesday morning. Susan Wilson purchased the engine by bid for $3,021, a price she picked because it was the engine number on the cab. It was a Christmas present for her husband Mike, who in turn had it delivered to Susan as a Valentine's Day present which she sees as a "fair trade." The Wilsons already have two Pullman cars, a caboose and water tanker converted into guest rooms for their business. -- Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, February 6, 1997 |
