About noon on January 1, 1976 Ken Brovald was on the C street overpass to photograph ARR #1510 while it rolled by on its way to exhibition at the Anchorage Depot. The elaborate bicentennial paint job was first displayed to the public that day and Ken took the classic photo used in numerous magazine articles and post cards. The "nose art" liberty bell lasted for some time and then was removed. We have not found a photo of the left side art work. Can anyone help fill in that blank?
Three binders of Ken's slides of Alaska Railroad photos were donated in his memory to the Museum of Alaska and Transportation and Industry, Inc. We hope his friends, far and wide, will enjoy them here from time to time. Pat Durand, Volunteer Railroad Curator. MATI
