EMD MRS-1 number 1715 proudly served in two branches of the service.  It was originally built in 1952 (builder number 15880) for the U.S. Army #1715 and later passed on to the U.S. Navy as 65-00571.  The Alaska Railroad acquired it in 1977 and scrapped in 1977.  Curt Fortenberry adds, "...1715 was ex 6500571.  Although I don't believe 1715 ever wore it's number."

Ed Cooper recalls the day he took this photo, "It was 24 years ago in January 1978 that I took these photos of the MRS-1s. They were newly arrived on the ARR

and were at the Shops for a look see I suppose."
