Place is setup with gift shop on East side / museum on west side / Staffer stays upstairs in summer
Staffer working there grew up in Nenana, but normally lives in Anchorage, but comes to Nenana in summer
Place built in 1922, and was used as a functioning station until the agent there retired in 1983
Was interesting to see the functional mechanics of the semaphore signals – the building side levers make an in-out motion, and then the rocker arm at the base of the signal translates that to an up-down motion.
Looking at the inside/outside of the 1922 construction, was entertaining to see it as:
