F7 1510
This roof shot of the 1505 shows what the sheet metal covered (vs. completely removed) first fan housing looks like. The area behind the winterization hatch shows typical vent details for a non-steam generator equipped F-unit. Also note that the first order of F's, which included 1505, did not have the roof top air cooling coil. Also note the large fuel tank on the 1505 which bulges past the skirting below the carbody. The first order of F's (1500, 1501, 1502, 1503, 1504, 1505) all had the larger fuel tanks. Also note the AAR type B trucks which was a spotting feature of the 1505. It was not built with these trucks, but received them at some point in her career and retained them until retirement. All my pictures of 1505 starting in 1973 show the AAR type B trucks. I have one picture in 1973 of the 1503 also on AAR type B trucks, but all subsequent shots show blombergs after that. So she must have been switched back. I can only speculate that perhaps the 1505 was involved in a derailment that destroyed the trucks so the AAR type B trucks from a retired RS-1 (or RF-1) were substituted.
