raft

Wet and wild!   Our troop backpacked in the Smoky Mountains and then rafted down the Ocoe River in Tennesse in 1987.

SBsailing

In 1989 our troop made its first trip to the Florida National High Adventure Sea Base in the Keys. We selected the Coral Reef Sailing program which gave the Scouts opportunities of sailing a 45 foot yacht, navigation, snorkeling, fishing and power tanning. As of this writing, we have taken three coral reef sailing trips.

SBmeeting

We had the best leader's meeting of all time at the sea base. Sam Wampler, director, takes all the crew adult advisors out on a boat to watch the sun set! I guess that's why I (at far right) am smiling!

philmont

We're getting on the plane to head to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico! We originally had planned to take Amtrak, but they closed down several days before our departure due to extensive flooding of the Mississippi River.

Almost every high adventure oriented Scout/Scouter recognizes this snap shot! Yes, it is the Tooth of Time at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. I have made four trips to Philmont and hope every Scout gets the opportunity.

scuba1

In 1997 our troop returned to the Florida Sea Base for their scuba diving program. This is an incredible program run by a top notch staff. This picture shows us diving at Alligator Reef in 30 feet of water. I am the friendly guy waving to you.

While diving we saw thousands of multicolored fish and beautiful coral reefs. It's just like swimming in a giant aquarium!

The Florida Keys has some of the best snorkeling/scuba diving spots in the world. The photographs don't do justice to the incredible clear visiblity of the water.

Another of my favorite trips is Red River Gorge/Natural Bridge State Park in Kentucky. There are over a hundred natural arches/bridges, dozens of backpacking and hiking trails and more rock climbing opportunities than you can shake a rope at.  Pictured above is Natural Bridge and Fat Man's Misery.

Airplane

Troop 325 took to the skies with its aviation program. Scouts learned the basics of aviation and even got to fly a Cessna Piper Cub.

Alaska
Thirty-one people went on our Alaska 2000 trip!  We went backpacking, rode the train, watched whales, puffins, sea lions and glaciers from a charter boat, dug for clams, camped on an ocean beach, slide down ice fields and much, much more!
