Alaska Railroad in Minnesota

David Schauer says of his photo, "The train is moving 130 cars of raw taconite (iron ore) 47 miles from the mine at Babbitt, MN to the processing plant on the shore of Lake Superior at Silver Bay, MN. North Shore Mining (NSM) has leased the two Alaska units through third party National Railway Equipment to help while some of the leased NSM SD40-2s are being worked on at NRE in Dixmoor, IL. The GP40s might stay around into next year to assist with a new ore concentrate train the railroad hopes to run."
