Whittier Depot Whittier Depot Whittier Depot

After many hours of hard work Rick finished the Whittier Depot. The final product looks great!

Here is the east end of the depot. I will finalize the base board color this week and glue it in place.

Rick's interior depot lights look fantastic! It looks like a real building!

Additional foam board bracing work continues. Glue is applied to the wooden bracing and a clamp holds it until dry. Five new braces are screwed into place to hold the foam board along the double track. The entire area is now stable. Here is another area receiving bracing. A total of 16 locations received additional bracing.
Bracing Flat cars
This is an example of wooden bracing screwed in place to provide additional support for the foam board. Rick's locomotive pulls the four new Walthers 60 foot Pullman Standard flatcars received by Clayton's Alaska Railroad this week.

Since Terry's father was the builder of this N scale layout it was only appropriate for her to lend a hand with the scenery.

Although it appears the layout is finished there is still work yet to be done. The far end still needs the rock wall finished.

Here is a view from the other end. It is obvious we still need to plant a tree or two.

Foam board
After lots of painting and repainting I finally found a shade of paint I like for the base of Whittier Depot. After a bit of weathering it is good to go. Rick spent train night anchoring and shimming up foam board and applying Liquid Nails. He began at the APU, continued around the curve and finished at Alaska Marine Lines.

We turned our attention to the N scale coffee table layout for this train night. Rick and I worked for about an hour placing Chooch Product timber cribbing on the elevation wall of the layout.

Terry cleaned up the coffee table in preparation for its placement.

Rick carried the layout from the upstairs train room to the first floor rec room. He removed the glass top and checked to ensure holes were in place for the electrical wires. We discovered the layout's base was too large for installation. Next week we will use a jigsaw to trim the sides.
