Passenger train at Whittier Depot Whittier Depot Whittier Depot

Last week Rick took video of a passenger train arriving at the Whittier Depot, dropping off a few passengers and then continuing on its way.

Construction work on the Whittier Depot begins to draw to a close. Now all that remains is the shingles and chimneys.

Rick adds interior lights to the waiting, baggage and residence living rooms. These will be controlled through a centralized layout power system.

Work continues on shoring up foam board around the layout. Tonight's work focuses on the north end of the APU. Ricks uses the hot wire cutter to create foam pieces to fill the gaps. Lastly, Liquid Nails holds them all in place. The fascia boards at the APU were knocked loose. Liquid Nails is applied and then a board wedged across the aisle holds them in place until the adhesive dries.

The Whittier Depot (Nenana Depot LaserKit) has about half of its shingles applied and the chimneys are now in place as well. It is temporarily displayed in its future location.

A foam block was put in place in a hole on the back side of the mountain. This repairs an early construction mistake. If you look closely at the photo you will also find a space invader who died not long after entering the earth's atmosphere. Actually, it is a dead stink bug, but that doesn't sound very interesting.

The foam board around the Portage Depot is removed and leveling foam blocks put into place. The gaps are measured and foam block shims are cut out using the hot wire cutter.

No, Rick did not lose his head. He is actually working on the leveling blocks from underneath the L-girder bench work. Foam board leveling work continues in the area of the entrance to the APU. Once the foam board is level Liquid Nails is applied to hold everything in place.
